Cut Household Expenses -Putting Things In Order

June 29, 2009

Not everyone is born with enough extra cash to be able to afford all of the luxuries of life. Once you have found your career path and things get pretty comfortable we often tend to buy things that will affect our everyday life and you never even consider that maybe you should cut back on expenses. For instance we may buy expensive furniture for our house and treat ourselves to goodies and vacations that we would have once considered a luxury. Since we are making more money you may not even consider them luxuries anymore.

But what if this bad economy caused you to lose your job? What if you suddenly realized that if your income stopped you would not be able to cover your monthly bills. What if you had to cut back on expenses.

In order to save to pay off your debt, you need to cut back on expenses. Do you need all the things and services you have? Consider these five things first when saving.

Cable TV: Although just about everybody has cable TV these days but do you really need that DVR you are paying extra for? Is your cable package watched enough to justify its expense? Most likely the answer to that question will be no.

You could buy a cable package that does not cost as much each month. Some people have even given up on cable altogether and went back to local channels only.

Internet Usage: Unless you work on the computer at home you may not need that expensive Internet service you subscribe to. Most people do little more on their computer than go to a couple of sites every couple of days or check their email. High speed Internet should be considered a luxury that most people do not have to have.

Telephones: Having a cell phone and a regular land line is a luxury people are discovering they may not need. More and more people are doing away with their home phones. If you think you must have both then try to get a less expensive cell phone plan.

Membership To A Gym: If you are one of those people with a membership to an exercise facility but don’t go on a regular basis this would be a good place to save some cash. Even if you attend your local gym religiously you can still do without the membership. There are a lot of ways to work out without parting with your hard earned cash. Try jogging around the block or you could even get together with a neighbor and try pumping some iron in the garage.

Automobiles: If you drive a larger automobile you can really save some money by purchasing a smaller more efficient auto. Gas will probably never be cheap again so take this into consideration when you are buying a car.

Look into carpooling options to reduce gas and cut back on expenses even further.
